We just worked on environmental print signs this week at school. Environmental print are the first words kids learn to read in addition to their name. Examples of environmental print include: common signs in their environment (stop sign, bathroom sign), logos from stores/restaurants (Target, McDonald's, Chick-Fil-A, etc.), and logos on items in your house (food, appliances, etc.). To tie into last week's post about core words (words that can be used in a variety of environments for a variety of purposes), two words we focused a lot on this week, were "Stop" and "Go." We made stop and go signs and put them on popsicle sticks (see file to the right) and played a version of the game "Red Light Green Light." Kids love to be in control so give them a turn to be the traffic cop too! Here are also some videos and songs that lend well to teaching Stop and Go. Have fun on this long weekend. Need more ideas?
